SOLOMON Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC) assistant program and production officer, George Hoatamauri Junior has participated in a regional radio drama production training in Fiji from the 13 th-17 th October 2025.

Facilitated by the BBC Media Action, the workshop brought together 14 radio programmers and producers from eight Pacific nation for a five-day long dive into radio drama production.

Speaking at an interview with UK in the Solomon Islands office, Haotamauri described his participation as a “privilege” to learn alongside fellow pacific broadcasters.

An unexplored area in his five-year broadcasting experience with SIBC, he shared his excitement to learn more.

“I have never touched drama. I only had worked on several documentaries and normal radio programmes.”

He shared that since the first day, which was pretty intense, he has learned a great deal from the facilitators and fellow broadcasters.

“I am excited to learn other new things and I would like to thank BBC media and British government for the support,” he added.

BBC Media Action’s Pacific project director Dipak Bhattarai told Fiji Times that radio unlike other mediums can reach remote communities and is one of the most trusted source in the pacific.

Bhattarai said that with radio drama, it can create relatable scenarios that listeners can identify with whether it is in health, governance or disaster preparedness.
