MASI, BBC Media Action host refresher Training

THE Media Association of the Solomon Islands (MASI) in partnership with the BBC Media Action is hosting a 5-day refresher workshop training for provincial stringers and upcoming reporters.

The workshop kick-starts on Monday 27th October 2025 and will conclude on the 31st of October 2025.

Participants are provincial stringers from Isabel, Central, Malaita, Temotu, Journalism students from the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) and upcoming reporters from ZFM and Isles Media.

BBC Media Action Coordinator Sina Adrian said the refresher training aims to strengthen provincial stringers.

“The training is to refresh and enhance the news reporting skills of provincial stringers, empowering them to produce accurate, compelling, and ethically-sound multimedia stories that effective serve their Island Communities.”

The training objectives is basically to help stingers and reporters apply core news skills, conduct effective interviews, produce multimedia content, leverage digital platforms, report responsibility and tell diverse stories.

He added that the training is part of BBC Media Action’s goal to strengthen the Solomon Islands Media Industry

For most of the participants, these was their first time to be part of a journalism workshop, Isabel stringer Alice Thegnamana said that though she does not have a degree in journalism or any other form of training , she had learned a lot from her first session.

“Today, I learned about story structure, how to carry out interviews and what are headlines , so I will say it is a very informative training.”

Meanwhile, Temotu Stringer, Paul Taka thanked MASI and BBC Media Action for the opportunity to travel over to Honiara to participate in the training.
