THE Media Association of the Solomon Islands (MASI) has hosted a Network Breakfast for local and visiting Media at the Heritage Park Hotel on the 27th of February 2025.
The breakfast event brought together local media practioners and visiting regional leaders and media, who were in Honiara, attending the Honiara summit held on the 24th -27th February.
The networking event provided the opportunity to reflect on journalism’s vital role in promoting sustainable fisheries and broader ocean issues across the Pacific.
Key speakers included Niue Prime Minister Dalton Tagelagi, Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General Baron Waqa, MASI President Ofani Eremae, and SIBC CEO Johnson Honimae.

The discussions reinforced the media’s critical responsibility in informing the public, shaping understanding, and encouraging active engagement on ocean-related challenges that directly impact Pacific livelihoods.
Speakers emphasized the importance of equipping journalists with the knowledge and tools needed to report accurately on complex fisheries issues—an area often underreported despite its central importance to regional sustainability.
The event also spotlighted the East New Britain Initiative (ENBI), which promotes sustainable ocean management and economic development in the region.
