Young Journalists Ready to Cover PIF

YOUNG journalists are gearing up with confidence and sharpened skills to cover next week’s Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders Meeting, following an intensive training on professional etiquette and interview techniques.

These early career media professionals representing various media outlets in Honiara, are eager to make their debut at one of the pacific region’s high-level
gatherings.

ZFM Radio journalist, Ian Ladds Oso said the training has had a profound impact on his professional development.

“A key takeaway is that it has boosted my confidence and enhanced essential skills such as comprehension, quick thinking, and formulating follow-up questions,” he said.

“I now feel confident and prepared to cover the PIF effectively.”

Sharon Daiwo, a reporter with just one year of experience at the Sunday Isles, shared her excitement about the training.

“As an upcoming journalist, I’m grateful to have gone through this training. It has been life-changing,” she shared “It has opened my eyes to what is expected of me when covering an event like the PIF,” she said.

“One highlight was learning how to approach and interact with leaders during interviews,”Daiwo added.

Meanwhile, Andrianah Delasalet Kole of the Solomon Star said the training is particularly valuable since she hasn’t covered any major events before.
“It has improved my communication skills and given me the confidence to conduct effective interviews — especially doorstep interviews,” she noted.

Stephanie Titili, a radio presenter at PAOA FM, described it as a “privilege and honor to participate.”

“One key area I definitely learned was how to think on my feet, and to come up with relevant questions on the spot rather than relying only on pre-prepared ones,” she said.
“It also improved my overall understanding of the PIF and the expected outcomes of next week’s meeting.”

The 54 th PIF will take place from Monday 8th – Friday 12 th September with member countries meet to deliberate on issues of great impact and concern.
