THE Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC) marked its 73rd anniversary on Tuesday September 23 rd 2025, using the milestone not only to celebrate its legacy but also to inspire the next generation of media professionals.
Students from King George VI, Tamlan School, and Mbokona High School were given a rare behind-the-scenes look into SIBC’s operations, touring various departments and gaining valuable insights into journalism and broadcasting.
The experience offered the students a hands-on introduction to the world of media, sparking interest and curiosity about careers in the field.
Delivering his opening address, SIBC Chief Executive Officer Johnson Honimae welcomed the young visitors and reflected on the broadcaster’s enduring presence in the country.
“Thanks to God for all His blessings and protection, keeping SIBC on air for over seven decades,” he said, expressing gratitude for the
organisation’s resilience and progress.
Though Honimae did not go into details of the success SIBC has achieved over the years, he noted that SIBC has reached several historic
milestones this year, underscoring the broadcaster’s commitment to growth and excellence.
He also acknowledged the collective efforts of staff, supporters, and the wider community in shaping SIBC’s success.
The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC) was established in 1976 through an Act of Parliament known as The Broadcasting Ordinance Act 1976.
Since its inception, SIBC has been committed to delivering high-quality radio broadcasting services which inform, educate and entertain the diverse population of the Solomon Islands.
