BBC Media Action training in Fiji

Senior SI Journalists attend digital journalism training

SENIOR Journalists, Georgina Kekea and Mike Tua have joined other pacific journalists in Suva, Fiji for an informative three-day training on digital journalism and social media storytelling.

The workshop, organized by BBC Media Action, aims to equip journalists with the skills needed to navigate the evolving digital media landscape.


Kekea from Tavuli News and Tua of Isles Media teamed up with participants were from Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu and Samoa.


Throughout the training, participants looked into how social media change newsroom and share their own experience from their respective newsroom.


BBC Media Action Trainer ,Issariya Praithongyaem in an interview with Tavuli News said that the training is timely given the technology era.


“Social media is where people get most of their information now, so we (journalists) must check our stories, follow editorial guideline and strive for accuracy.”


Participants also delved into digital storytelling which involved in making videos that can be posted on Facebook, Tiktok and youtube.

Participants are encouraged to return to their respective countries to construct social media strategies that their newsroom can use and also as tarinrs to pass on the kwledge and skills.

Kekea and Tua’s participation was endorsed by the Media Association of the Solomon Islands (MASI) with support from the BBC Media Action
