JOURNALISTS and radio presenters based in Gizo, Western province, have participated in a five-day radio programming and production workshop from the 29th – 3rd October 2025.
Aimed at enhancing the skills and professional capacity, the refresher delved into basic news writing, production content
development, social media strategy, and sales & marketing.
The workshop was facilitated by BBC Media Action and supported by the British High Commission in Solomon Islands.
Participants include SIBC’s Radio Hapi Lagoon FM, Western provincial government officers, freelancers and news reporters of the Island Sun and Solomon Star newspapers.
BBC Media Action Solomon Islands Coordinator, Sina Adrian, who organized the workshop, said the training is part of BBC Media Action’s objective to strengthen media organizations in the Solomon Islands.
He added while BBC Media Action has established partnerships with some media houses, it is important to continue supporting capacity building across different organizations.
The participants expressed their excitement and satisfaction of being part of the refresher training.
Workshop presenters include Georgina Maka’a of In-depth Solomons, Moddie Nanau and Lionel Bazu of SIBC Sales and
Marketing department.
The team also had the privilege to meet the Premier Billy Veo and other Provincial Members.
