ZFM Completes Accountability Journalism Training

ZFM Radio has recently concluded a three-day training aimed at strengthening staff capacity and understanding of accountability journalism.

The training, attended primarily by radio presenters, covered key areas including accountability journalism, basic journalism principles, and photography.

The seven participants engaged in in-depth discussions, sharing their experiences in day-to- day radio broadcasting and exchanging ideas on how to improve their reporting and storytelling techniques.

“At the conclusion of the training, outgoing station manager and facilitator, Ruthina Koroa congratulated the participants on their willingness and enthusiasm.

“Your willingness to learn, share, and grow together has strengthened not only our skills but also our commitment to quality journalism and responsible reporting. I’m proud of how everyone engaged and supported one another,” Koroa said.

She also encouraged the participants to hold themselves to high ethical standards as they continue to serve audiences across the country.

Many of the attendees, who did not have formal journalism backgrounds, expressed satisfaction with the training and showed a strong interest in developing careers in the media industry.

“I have learned a lot. The sessions, both theoretical and practical, gave me hands-on experience in how to apply accountability in broadcasting journalism,” Bazu said, adding that he was excited to apply his new skills in his day-to-day work.

The training was part of a broader series of accountability-focused workshops being rolled out in newsrooms across the Solomon Islands, including print, online, and broadcast media.

These initiatives were made possible through a partnership between the Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) and Internews, with financial support from the European Commission.
