Who we are

The Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) is a registered not-for-profit organisation established in the 1980s to represent and support the country’s media industry.

MASI works to uphold the integrity, independence and professionalism of the media. We encourage the highest standards of journalistic ethics and reporting, protect media freedoms, and promote the interests, rights and welfare of people working in the industry.

We represent print, radio, television and online media, as well as people working in media, communication and advertising across government, industry, not-for-profit organisations and community-based groups.

Professional standards and policies

MASI’s Code of Ethics sets the benchmark for professional standards in Solomon Islands’ media. It respects the country’s traditional values and the media’s duty to hold individuals, communities and institutions to account, consistent with freedom of expression, freedom of information and the public interest.

The Code applies across print, radio, online and social media, television, advertising and other forms of media produced by government, non-government and industry organisations, churches, community groups and individuals. Members are expected to honour both the wording and the spirit of the Code.

The Constitution requires it to be accompanied by the Code of Conduct, Child Protection Policy, Social Media Policy and a Disciplinary Policy. Members are bound by the Code of Conduct, Child Protection Policy and Social Media Policy.

MASI’s policy framework also includes trauma, training, financial and membership policies.
